From Finland to Austria
Mozart: Duo in G Major
In this program we travel through Europe: from our nordic home country to the heart of the continent. The history of Finnish art music is not as long as Austrian. The year 1790 was founded the first assosiation of classical music in Turku, the capital city of that time. The first internationally acclaimed Finnish composer was B. H. Crusell. Some 100 years later was the time of J. Sibelius. Among the symphonic repertoire he composed chamber music, including a string duo for violin and viola.
Austria is full of treasures considering classical music. Focusing only on string duos, the Duos for violin and viola by W. A. Mozart are the most central repertoire. Also J. Haydn as well as his brother Michael composed for this ensemble, just to mention a couple of examples. We have also in the program arrangements of the miniatures of F. Kreisler, from which one can sence the atmosphere of Vienna at the early 20th century.
